# Woods Knowledge Guide — build spec

## Goal
IGCSE DT revision guide covering everything about WOOD as a material — categories,
properties, tools, joints and finishes. Self-contained single-file HTML (dark theme).

## Content sections
- Hardwoods vs softwoods (not "hard/soft" — it's about seed type): oak, beech, ash,
  mahogany, teak, walnut vs pine, spruce, cedar, larch
- Manufactured boards: plywood, MDF, particleboard, hardboard, blockboard — uses for each
- Timber conversion & seasoning (why wood warps), grain direction
- Hand tools: saws (tenon, dovetail, coping), chisels, planes, marking out, files
- Joinery: butt, dowel, biscuit, mortise & tenon, dovetail, finger, housing, lap — strength & use
- Adhesives: PVA, epoxy, contact adhesive, wood glue choice
- Finishes: varnish, lacquer, oil, wax, paint, stains — protection vs appearance
- Safety: dust, sharp tools, PPE
