The navigation lamp went out with a boat still outside. You are the only one left on the pier,
and the power is three breakers away — boathouse, cabin, pier head.
Something in the water is blind. It cannot see your torch. It hears your feet, your breath, and the
ratchet of the crank. Light costs noise.
01Standing still is the only silence you have. Crouch and it may lose you.
02To crank the torch you must stop — the ratchet is the loudest thing you own.
03Throwing a breaker is a clunk the whole harbour hears. Do it, then move.

The lamp is lit.
The beam found the boat at the mouth of the harbour. Nobody on the quay ever asked how you
got the power back — or why you came up the pier at a walk, not a run.
